Motorcycle Accessory Choices

If you have been considering taking off on the open road, or even off the beaten path for a camping trip on your bike, then perhaps there is a motorcycle accessory or two that you may want to consider taking along. It can be difficult trying to decide exactly what you need with the limited space that you have available in which to store things. The organizing and packing are very important, especially if you plan on using just the motorcycle saddlebags. If so, then it is that much more important to take only what is necessary.

If you are planning to add additional motorcycle accessories to the bike, such as a luggage rack, then that will definitely give you the freedom to add additional items. The same holds true if you are going to pull a trailer. Of course this will give you more room, but you’ll still need to be careful as there are certain things you need to be aware of when you have a trailer. You should choose the most lightweight model that is compatible with your bike. It takes about 30 minutes to install the hitch under the bike’s rear fender, yet care must be taken to ensure that it will not hinder the operation of the bike.

Try making a list of the gear or different items that you may need to bring with your first. For example, one very important motorcycle accessory that you may need if you are going to be sleeping outside is a tent, as well as some kind of ground cover, a sleeping bag and other related camping gear. This can be very helpful when you are trying to figure out if all the space you will need can be handled by the saddlebags alone or if you may need to add a luggage rack or tow a trailer. Perhaps you may want to consider having larger, custom motorcycle saddlebags made.

There are other items that you will want to consider and it is always a good idea to have a motorcycle cover in case of inclement weather while you are camping. If you are going on a long trip, then you may want to include water and snacks for the ride in case you stop somewhere and do not want to have to unpack everything, or if you will be in a remote area with no roadside diners. As well, a motorcycle tire repair kit is always a good item to have on hand.

When you are making your list of items, one motorcycle accessory that you should include is a rain suit or at least a poncho in case you run into bad weather. If you are going to have to prepare your own meals, then you will also need some kind of cooking utensils and probably a pocketknife. Other things that are a good idea to have on hand are a flashlight and a first aid kit.
